"Ego is the point at which we no longer see ourselves as an observer. Ethos is the nature of goodwill that helps us build meaningful relationships and connect with our audience."
Ioften turn to the world of adventure and discovery to learn new things and grow from the experience. It is not so much where I am going that matters but rather what I am doing and what I leave behind. If I develop a sense of self through achievement, I could discover meaning and feel proud. I could learn to give more than what I ask and be life’s companion and accept all it has to offer. With purpose, we can trust our judgment and be willing to act upon it, knowing that we have the energy to fulfill its obligation and much, much more.
Over time, I learned that self-development is a zigzagging path of working hard, pivoting, re-applying oneself, and having some “happy accidents” that lead to new opportunities. Along the way, I ended up turning around two sick companies in Mexico and Qatar and built a knowledge advantage capability to help clients derive value. I have since advised CEOs of companies in three world regions. I established channel partnerships in Liberia and Colombia and worked in the startup worlds of London and Dubai.
I went to grad school to learn about leadership theory. I then landed in what Bill Matassoni describes as the “la-la-land of eCommerce.” I spent several years raising money for private equity and hedge funds, learning the gift of sales. I later discovered a powerful vocation in public sector development to assist social enterprises in South Africa and promote Vanuatu’s cottage industry.
I was looking for a purpose. By doing so, I can now tell a version of humanity I came to know, sharing the knowledge derived from experience and the stories told by goodwill ambassadors I was fortunate to encounter throughout my travels. I hope the content will help enrich your work and life. Most of all, I hope to entertain you.
Please enjoy.
